When growing up, we often have preconceived notions of people by what we see, hear, and in some way expect them to be. But as we grow through life, we realize that every rule has an exception. For Ayesha Curry, that exception was Stephen Curry.

Before she met her husband, Ayesha was acting and modeling in Los Angeles and Steph was playing college basketball for Davidson. The two had previously met when they were teenagers at their church youth group in Charlotte, N.C. and reconnected when he was in town for the ESPYs.

“I didn’t know what the ESPYs were,” Ayesha told People Magazine. “My parents found this paper from my high school theatre class where you had to write down what you wanted in a significant other,” she recalled. “At the bottom, it said, ‘No athletes, because they’re arrogant.'”

Fresh off leading the Wildcats to the Elite 8 in the 2008 NCAA tournament, Stephen Curry had already made a name for himself on the national stage and was garnering interest from many pro scouts and GMs around the league.

“She really didn’t know what I did at the time,” said Steph. “It was pretty refreshing.”

After initially turning him down, Ayesha finally agreed to go out with him after he reached out on Facebook. They both went into an admittedly “cheesy” date on Hollywood Boulevard, cruising in her '95 Astro van and it wasn't long until Steph tried to impress her by spending all his money for a pair of Oakley sunglasses for her.

Ayesha soon realized those preconceived notions about him were wrong.

“He was so funny and silly,” she said. “The absolute opposite of what I thought he was going to be.”

Fast forward three years and the couple got married in 2011, and have since welcomed two daughters, three-year-old Riley and one-year-old Ryan.

Steph has an NBA championship and plenty of hardware including two MVP trophies while Ayesha has made a name for herself in the culinary world with a TV show in the Cooking Channel set to premiere in October, a pop-up restaurant in San Francisco, and her best-selling book “The Seasoned Life.”

The two are now one of the most popular celebrity couples in the sports world, even if that was the farthest thing from Ayesha's imagination growing up.
