Buckle up for some intense inter-league action as the Milwaukee Brewers take on the Kansas City Royals. Join us for our MLB odds series where our Brewers-Royals prediction and pick will be revealed.

Entering the fresh week, it is Milwaukee that has compiled a rather solid 20-13 record up to this point despite dropping two of three games to the Chicago Cubs over the weekend. Regardless of the recent outcomes, the Brewers remain tied at the top of the NL Central standings with the Cubbies. In line for the start from the mound will be Colin Rea who has sprinted out to a fantastic start to the 2024 MLB season. Thus far, Rea is a perfect 3-0 from the bump and also possesses a 2.67 ERA through six starts.

Could the Kansas City Royals be one of the surprise teams of baseball this summer? So far, their vast improvement is more than evident. Similarly to the Brewers, it was the Royals that went down in defeat in two straight over the weekend, but KC's 20-15 overall record suggests that they are more than capable of bouncing back. In an attempt to go toe-to-toe with Rea, it will be up to righty Seth Lugo who arguably is also one of baseball's best at the moment. With a 5-1 record to go along with a 1.60 earned-run average, there is no doubt that Lugo should be a tough challenge for the Brewers and their bats.

Why The Brewers Will Cover The Spread/Win

Known for their dynamic pitching prowess and clutch-hitting ability over the years, Milwaukee is staring at an opponent that plays very similarly to themselves. In order for Milwaukee to stay on top of the NL Central, a near-flawless outing will need to be played out on the diamond.

For starters, a little more consistency in the form of the offense needs to be the point of emphasis. With the absence of outfielder Christian Yelich due to injury not being ideal, the offense has fallen into a bit of a lull. Outside of William Contreras' splendid play from inside the batter's box, the offense has struggled to support him. Overall, Milwaukee is jam-packed with young talent offensively, but with that comes a whole lot of growing pains. Believe it or not, but the Brewers have the youngest lineup in baseball. Ultimately, coming up clutch with runners in scoring position and recording productive at-bats will be huge for Milwaukee's chances to cover the spread.

To make a long story short, Milwaukee's greatest strength may be in regards to swiping bags on the base paths. At first glance, Milwaukee has obtained the fourth-most stolen bases in the league and when given the opportunity when reaching base, they could make life difficult for Kansas City with their aggressiveness to push the envelope in this sense.

Why The Royals Will Cover The Spread/Win

Not only will the combination of Lugo, the home crowd, and even the red-hot play from backstop Salvador Perez could be extremely vital in Kansas City's pursuit to cover the spread, but it will also be important to be on the lookout for the Royals to string together a complete performance from their pitching staff.

In addition to a brilliant showing from Mr. Lugo himself, the Royals will also need the bullpen to keep the lethal Brewers bats at bay. With that being said, getting off to a good start and stringing together some scoreless frames early and often will be critical for KC's confidence.

After a couple of years of being in clear rebuild mode, the Royals' patience is paying off in a big way. While veterans such as Perez behind the dish have helped soften the blow of a rebuild, it is names like Bobby Witt Jr. that make Royals fans extremely ecstatic for the organization's future. With a guy like Witt Jr, the 23-year-old is an extremely tough nut to crack as he hits for high contact and is currently raking a supreme .319 at the plate. Will the up-and-coming superstar have what it takes to send the Brewers packing back to the hotel?
