The second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs is here, as the Boston Bruins will meet the Florida Panthers for Game 1 on Monday at the Amerant Bank Arena. We're here to share our NHL odds series, make a Bruins-Panthers Game 1 prediction, and pick while showing you how to watch.

The Bruins defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs four games to three in a thrilling series with a wild ending. Initially, they split the first two games at the TD Garden, winning 5-1 in Game 1 and losing 3-2 in Game 2. The Bruins dominated the next two games, winning 4-2 in Game 3 and 3-1 in Game 4. Then, the Bruins fell 2-1 in overtime to the Maple Leafs at home in Game 5. The Bruins faltered again, losing 2-1 to the Leafs in Game 6 on the road. Finally, they won a wild 2-1 overtime thriller against the Leafs after David Pastrnak finished it off.

The Panthers defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning four games to one, finally getting over the hump after losing to them in the three previous playoff battles they had. At first, the Cats took the first two games, both nailbiters, winning 3-2 in Game 1 with a goal with 10 seconds left and then 3-2 in Game 2 in overtime. The Panthers had a good third period in Game 3 to win 5-3 to go up 3-0. Next, they fell 6-3 in Game 4 to force the series back home. But the Cats finished their prey, destroying the Lightning 6-1 in Game 5.

The Bruins won all four games this season, including three by one goal. Furthermore, they will be looking to avenge a humiliation they endured last season when they blew a 3-1 series lead and fell to the Panthers in seven games.

Why The Bruins Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Bruins have not done much offensively in this postseason. Yet, they have done to advance to the next round. The Bruins hope their weapons can produce.

Brad Marchand has three goals and five assists, including two powerplay markers. However, he has also gone three straight games without a point. Jake DeBrusk has three goals and two assists, all of which were on the extra-man attack. Meanwhile, Pastrnak now has three goals and two assists. Defenseman Charlie McAvoy has four goals. Likewise, Trent Frederic has notched three goals. But he has struggled in the faceoff circle, winning just 11 draws and losing 27.

But, of course, the defense has been solid. Marchand has leveled 18 hits in this series. Also, Debrusk has tallied 30 hits. McAvoy has 34 hits and 19 blocked shots. Also, Frederic has generated 28 hits. These players have all played well in front of the goalies.

Jeremy Swayman is 4-2 with a 1.49 goals-against average and a save percentage of .950. After switching goalies back and forth, it seems like the Bruins have settled on him for now. Their other option, Linus Ullmark, lost his only playoff game and had a .912 save percentage.

The Bruins will cover the spread if they can capitalize on their chances with good passing and rotations. Then, they need to continue to play tough defense to make things as difficult as possible.

Why The Panthers Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Panthers are a scoring machine. Now, they will have their toughest test in the world. But they have some of the best scorers on the planet and can definitely match the intensity.

Carter Verhaeghe had a great series against the Bolts, scoring five goals and four assists, including one on the powerplay. Meanwhile, Matthew Tkachuk had three goals and six assists. Aleksander Bakov finally arrived in Game 5. Now, he enters this series with two goals and three assists. Barkov also did well on the faceoff circle, winning 40 draws and losing 35. Vladimir Tarasenko had one goal and two assists. Likewise, Sam Reinhart had three goals, with many coming toward the start of the series.

The defense was not spectacular, but it was good enough to win. Significantly, Tkachuk had 12 hits, Barkov had 13 hits, and Tarasenko had eight hits and blocked five shots. Now, they hope to keep it going in front of goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, who is 4-1 with a 2.78 goals-against average and save percentage of .896.

The Panthers will cover the spread if Reinhart and Tkachuk can spring free and get some chances while Barkov wins some draws. Then, the defense needs to help Bobrovsky save the day, especially against Pastrnak.

Final Bruins-Panthers Game 1 Prediction & Pick

The Bruins barely went over the spread, and the Panthers barely went under. Thus, this is the ultimate defense vs. offense showdown. The defense usually wins. However, the Bruins just played an excruciating Game 7. The Panthers have had an entire week to prepare for this game. There might be a chance of rust. Yet, the Cats want to make a statement, especially since they outworked the Bruins to get home-ice advantage. Look for the Panthers to come out roaring in Game 1 and take down a tired Bruins team.
