After a strong start to the season, the Philadelphia Eagles find themselves at 4-4, right in the thick of the playoff race. After dominating the competition in their first three games, Philly has gone 1-4.

A huge reason for the Eagles' change in fortune has been their performance late in games. In all four losses, they've had the ball with a chance to either tie or take the lead late. On all four occasions, they failed to do so, resulting in four one-possession defeats.

Carson Wentz discussed his disgust with the Eagles' inability to capitalize late in games. From ESPN's Tim McManus:

“We, all around here, are kind of sick to our stomach where we're at right now with just all these close games,” Wentz said. “It's frustrating to not finish. We've had chances in every one of these as an offense to go down there and win the ball game or tie it up or whatever the case may be. It's frustrating, so we all have got to do a better job and that starts with me in those key situations.”

The path doesn't become any easier for Philadelphia coming up; their next three games are against the Atlanta Falcons, Seattle Seahawks, and Green Bay Packers.

How to improve

Wentz believes they can turn their season around if they learn from their losses, avoid making the same mistakes, and execute in crucial situations:

“The biggest thing I think we all just take away is late in games,” Wentz said. “I keep sounding like a broken record, but it's just executing and finishing down the wire. It's some third-down moments, know when to take sacks at times, know when a play's not there. There's just things to learn all the time, and I think as a good team we've all got to learn from those. If we're not learning, we're just going to keep repeating those mistakes. So yeah, without a doubt, those are all learning experiences.”
