The NCAA continues Wednesday with an SEC battle! It's time to continue our college basketball odds series with a Vanderbilt-Kentucky prediction and pick.

Vanderbilt is (11-9) on the season and (3-5) in the SEC. They are fresh off of a win against Georgia 85-77 and as a matter of fact, their latest win prior to that was also against Georgia back in mid-January. Kentucky is (17-4) and (6-2) in the conference. Kentucky is coming off a huge win over No. 5 Kansas by 18 points. They are starting to get things going and are facing Vanderbilt for the second time this season. The Wildcats won 78-66 the first time around back in early January.

Why Vanderbilt Could Cover The Spread

This won't be easy, but Vanderbilt is capable of covering this large spread. The offense will need to step up big time because the Wildcats contain a very elite defense. Both teams allow the same amount of points per game but Kentucky averages 16 more points per game than they do. Interesting how the spread is at 16 right now. With all that being said, it's clear that Kentucky is one of the better teams in the nation and is coming off of a blowout win against a top-5 team. Vanderbilt will need to be on their best in this one if they want to cover.

For the Commodores, Scottie Pippen Jr. will need to be the star of the show. The son of the NBA Hall of Famer is averaging 18.6 points per game which puts him exactly 50th in the NCAA in scoring. He scored 32 points the first time he played against Kentucky and played very well in the second half to keep them in the game, only losing by 12. If they get that same kind of production from Pippen Jr. again, then they should be able to cover this spread on the road. Vanderbilt must try and control the boards because they will be going up against the nation's leading rebounder, Oscar Tshiebwe.

Why Kentucky Could Cover The Spread

As mentioned above, Tshiebwe leads the nation with 15.1 rebounds per game. That is an incredible feat for the Congo native as he is one of the major reasons for their success this season. He's also averaging 16.3 points per game off of 61.5% shooting. Vanderbilt will have a long night if they aren't able to rebound or shut his offense down. Ty Ty Washington also averages 13 points and 4.4 assists per game on the season and those two will be the major factors in them covering this spread. In the win over Kansas, 6-foot-7 forward Keion Brooks notched 27 points and Tshiebwe recorded 17 points and 14 rebounds. Washington actually played horribly shooting 1-9 and ending with just two points. If he improves his performance tonight, then Kentucky will have zero issues covering this spread.

Final Vanderbilt-Kentucky Prediction & Pick

Neither side is very good against the spread this season. Vandy is 9-11 and the Wildcats are 10-11 ATS. That won't be a major help in deciding this result so I am choosing this based on their last meeting and Kentucky's win over Kansas. Kentucky should be able to cover this spread if they keep their same energy against the Commodores.

Final Vanderbilt-Kentucky Prediction & Pick: Kentucky -16 (-105)
