With last night's Eagles win over the Giants, the Dallas Cowboys officially clinched the NFC East and the 1st seed in the NFC. With two games to go, head coach Jason Garrett will likely decrease his usage of their biggest stars so that they're fresh and healthy for the postseason.

Barring a major meltdown, it was assumed a few weeks ago that Dallas would take the NFC's #1 seed. Once it happened, fans and media personalities speculated that owner Jerry Jones would look to get Tony Romo some in-game reps.

We all know the story. Romo went down in the preseason with a back injury, and fourth-round pick Dak Prescott was given the reins of the offense. He never looked back, leading the Cowboys to a 12-2 record to date.

Prescott's name is currently being thrown around in the MVP conversation, along with teammate and fellow rookie Ezekiel Elliott. Yet, given the star-power of Romo, there were still rumblings that Dak could lose his job as recently as two weeks ago.

He shut the doubters up last week with a spectacular performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their red-hot defense.

With their playoff positioning all wrapped up, people aren't suggesting that Romo replace Prescott in the starting spot. But, many do believe some game-reps would serve him well should he need to fill in for an injured Dak in the playoffs.

Apparently, that won't be the case.

From Mike Fisher of 105.3 The Fan and CBS Sports:

I'm told by many inside of The Star: Cowboys are presently disinclined to use Romo as rust-off mop-up. Prefer as big-need insurance policy.

There are a couple reasons that this makes sense. Romo has just as much of a chance of getting hurt as everybody else, if not more. If Tony goes down now, they won't have that “insurance policy” available in the postseason.

Additionally, if Romo lights it up, debates arguing that he should start would flare up everywhere. Prescott has been able to block out the noise so far, but this would be different.

Instead, let's all enjoy the Mark Sanchez experience over these next two weeks.
