The Dallas Mavericks sit tied with the Utah Jazz after four games in the first round of the 2022 NBA Playoffs. Game 4 came down to the wire with the Jazz storming back in the final minute to win.

Despite the loss, a positive from the game was the Mavericks getting superstar Luka Doncic back. The series heads back to Dallas for huge Game 5. In the meantime, let's take a look at some bold predictions for Monday's contest.

Mavericks predictions for Game 5 vs. Jazz

3. Luka Doncic puts up 30-point triple-double

Luka Doncic's return in Game 4 was surprisingly met with a loss. The Mavs star showed no rust, though, as he led the team in points (30), rebounds (10), assists (4), and steals (2). In other words, he did Luka Doncic things. He was also very efficient on the day, going 11/21 from the field and 4/10 from behind the arc.

In his early career, Doncic has quickly become known as a stat-sheet stuffer. He already has 46 career triple-doubles, including scoring 30+ points in 21 of those games. Doncic has established himself as a premier playoff performer already as well. His game-winner against the Clippers is perhaps his most notable playoff highlight of his career thus far. In that Game 4, Doncic did manage to have a 30-point double-double. In Game 5, his teammates will hit a few more shots en route to a 30-point triple-double from Doncic.

2. Trey Burke sees 10+ minutes

This one is perhaps as bold as it gets. The veteran guard has played just eight minutes in the series, totaling six points. Those minutes were all in Games 2 and 3, as he did not see the floor in either Game 1 or 4. So why will he score 10+?

The main reason is Spencer Dinwiddie. After a horrible start to the season with the Wizards, Dinwiddie enjoyed a bit of a revival in Dallas. In 23 games in the regular season, he averaged 15.8 points and 3.9 assists per contest while shooting just under 50% from the field and just over 40% from 3. He was essential in the Mavs bouncing back from a slow start.

The playoffs have been much different though, as he has shot 31.7% from the field and 18.2% from 3. Dinwiddie has also doubled his average of turnovers (2.8) and number of fouls committed (4.5). Doncic's absence certainly forced Dinwiddie's hand into being more aggressive, sacrificing his efficiency in exchange. With that being said, he just has not performed to his regular season self.

While completely throwing Dinwiddie out of the rotation isn't necessary, some minutes for Trey Burke may work. It's a bit out there, but he was able to provide the Mavericks with good minutes in the 2020 postseason. Game 4 against the Clippers was perhaps the most notable performance, as he went for 25 points in the win. In the regular season, Burke averaged 10.5 minutes and 5.1 points in his 42 games played. He shot 31.7% from behind the arc and while not the most appealing numbers, he has shown the ability to provide a spark off the bench.

1. Mavs win by double digits

With Luka Doncic back, the Mavericks are clearly the better team. They have Jalen Brunson putting up just under 30 points per game in the series, providing an excellent secondary option to Doncic. Now that he has knocked the “rust” off in his first game back, the Mavericks will hit the ground running in Game 5. To start, the game is back in Dallas, giving them the presence of their home crowd. Not only does the crowd noise play a factor, but role players always seem to play better at home in the postseason.

While he was far better in the last two games, Jazz center Rudy Gobert struggled mightily in Games 1 and 2 in Dallas. He managed to grab 17 rebounds in each of those games, affecting the game defensively per usual. Despite that, he offered virtually no threat on the offensive end. Gobert scored just 13 points in the two contests, attempting just six field goals. For that reason coupled with the return of Doncic, the Mavericks will beat the Jazz by double digits in Game 5 to give them the 3-2 series lead.
