Despite the fact that the New Orleans Pelicans are set to miss yet another playoff appearance this year, DeMarcus Cousins appears to be very contented with where he is right now.

In a recent interview for The Undefeated, Boogie opened up about the trade that sent him packing from the Sacramento Kings and one of the issues he discussed was about the potential earnings he lost in the deal.

The Pelicans will only be able to offer Cousins a five-year contract in the range of $180 million. Although this is still a pretty big amount, it is still $30 million less than what the Kings could have offered.

According to the 26-year-old, he has a lot of other things in mind and money is not, and never has been the be-all and end-all for him.

“It was never about the money. I don’t play this game for money,” said Cousins, per Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated. “Anyone that knows me knows that I don’t play for the money. I had money before. I’m perfectly fine. To say it doesn’t help me would be a lie. Of course I want it. It wasn’t about the money. It never was.”

He went on to explain that his first choice was to stay in Sacramento. Unfortunately, the circumstances pushed him to move on and take the next step in his career.

“I wanted my legacy to end in Sacramento,” added the 6-foot-11 big man. “I invested so much time and energy. Everything I had, my whole heart was into that city. Just for it to end the way it did, that was the part that was f—-. But it was never about the money. I don’t give a s— about the money.”

Based on his statements, it appears that Cousins has a much higher regard for his success and accomplishments as opposed to the money he is earning. Then again it would be very easy to not “give a s—” about it if you’re earning around $16 million every year.
