Deron Williams is back with the Dallas Mavericks and excited about his team's new look.

After a sports hernia surgery that cut his playoff run short, Williams, who signed a one-year $10 million contract to return, is looking forward to playing with his new teammates.

“We're definitely going to miss Chandler (Parsons), but Harrison (Barnes) stepping in, that's not a downgrade,” Williams told Eddie Sefko of The Dallas News. “It's going to be great to see how he handles being a go-to guy. He's kind of been in the shadows (at Golden State). We'll see what he can do now with the ball in his hands. And I'm looking forward to playing with big Bogut. I've been a fan of his for awhile. He's definitely a player point guards like to play with.”

“(Barnes) situation is unique because he came into the league with a lot of hype,” Williams said of the No. 7 overall pick in 2012. “And he got into a situation where he was needed for a certain role. He played the heck out of that role, got a championship and now he has a chance to kind of see if he can live up to the hype. You never know what he can do until he's thrown out there.”

The Illinois alum gave his thoughts on his new contract and his expectations for the year:

“I'd have liked to be here for a little longer,” Williams said of his one-year deal. “We'll see how it goes. It is what it is. For sure, I wanted to be back. I felt like I had some unfinished business at the end of last year the way things ended and I wasn't able to be on the court. Hopefully I'll stay healthy because I'm excited about this team.”

Williams has seen his scoring drop during the last four seasons, going all the way from a career-high 21 points per game to a measly 14.3 in his first year as a Maverick.
