Dion Waiters is gaining a reputation as a journeyman. The former Oklahoma City Thunder guard agreed to a one-year, $2.9 million deal with the Miami Heat this week. His move adds depth to the shooting guard position after the departure of Miami icon, Dwyane Wade.

The deal was for far less than fans expected, considering he was one of the few free agents still available who can contribute significantly.

The former Syracuse standout took to Instagram to explain himself and make his motives clear:

I didn’t do it for the money… I did it for the opportunity to go out & ball & have fun. Everything else will take care of its self!!! I just felt like it was the best situation for me & my family. I could have waited & got wat I wanted. But I rather be happy then miserable at the end of the day!!! Meaning Yu can have everything & still not be happy… #heatnation let’s get it!!! #provethemwrong #stamped #Philly

It may be the case that Waiters didn't see a hugely beneficial offer on the market, however, he could have also been inspired by the Miami lifestyle and the strong, youthful core that the Heat currently boast. Waiters was adamant to make sure people know that the financial aspect of the deal was secondary.
