Last summer, the Dallas Mavericks went all out to sign Harrison Barnes, as they believed he is a good fit in their system and could address their need in the small forward position. They offered him a very lucrative contract and had high hopes when he agreed to join the team. However, their franchise player had a different take on him as he thought he was not as good as advertised.

Dirk Nowitzki recently admitted that he doubted his new teammate's abilities and even went as far as saying he saw him as a bust in the preseason. He told him just that and received a very interesting response from Barnes.

The 24-year-old North Carolina product has since proven him wrong as he is having a very good season in his first year in Dallas. He is averaging a career high 19.5 points, to go along with 5.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game and has been able to prove that he is worthy of the four-year, $94 million deal he signed with the team last year.

Despite the lack of success the Mavericks have this season, Barnes is still giving their fans a lot to be optimistic about, as he will be an important piece to their future plans. He is still young and is expected to further improve in the next few years, which will only benefit his team, as they look to bring back lost glory to the franchise and the city that has been accustomed to winning.
