The San Francisco Giants take on the Colorado Rockies. Our MLB odds series has our Giants Rockies prediction and pick. Find out how to watch Giants Rockies.

The Colorado Rockies are a bad team this season. That's not new or unique. What is new is that Colorado can't hit and can't score. The Rockies' 5-0 loss to the Giants on Tuesday was their sixth shutout loss of the season.

It's only May 8, and the season has encompassed just 35 games. There are 127 left to go. Six shutout losses in 35 games is close to one shutout loss every six games. The Rockies are on pace to absorb 27 shutout losses this season. That's nuts. We're not even including another Coors Field home game in which the Rockies didn't score in nine full innings. They were blanked by the Seattle Mariners in nine innings but scored twice in the 10th to win. Their offense has been spectacularly bad. Past Rockie teams would have bad pitching, but they could still hit. This team can't hit, period. It will be fascinating to see if the offensive struggles continue at an improbably severe rate, or if the Rockies finally heat up when the weather also warms up. The offense waking up will be the difference between Colorado being a moderately bad team and — on the other hand — a total disaster (a 100-loss team) in 2024.

Why The Giants Could Cover The Spread

The Giants had just been drubbed by the Philadelphia Phillies over the weekend in a four-game sweep. San Francisco pitching got roughed up, but the bigger story was how quiet San Francisco's bats were. The Giants aren't unique in that regard, but they are one of several teams which has had a really hard time hitting in the first six weeks of the 2024 MLB season. Tuesday, the Giants got healthier against the Rockies with a 5-0 win. San Francisco has faced a tough schedule so far this season, but Colorado gives San Francisco a much easier opponent and a chance to get healthy. Colorado is one of the few teams in the National League that San Francisco should dominate. The Giants should be able to score even more than the five runs they managed on Tuesday. Given that Colorado's hitting is embarrassingly bad, the Giants would notch an almost-certain victory — straight up and on the run line — if they score six or more in this game.

Why The Rockies Could Cover The Spread

If you were to make an argument that the Rockies will cover the spread, you would simply say that the Giants do not have a dynamic offense right now, and that Colorado — after so many bad offensive games in recent days — is due for a real breakout. The Rockies don't have a good offense, but after being shut out at Coors Field on Tuesday, they are bound to bounce back and show a little professional pride in this game.

Final Giants-Rockies Prediction & Pick

The Rockies are awful, and you can make some money by consistently betting against them this year. Take the Giants.
