Aside from losing their season opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Charlotte Hornets were also dealt an injury blow on Wednesday night after Cody Zeller fractured his left hand.

Zeller sustained the injury early in the third quarter while guarding Andre Drummond in the paint and fighting for the rebound. He immediately left the game and did not return, with Bismack Biyombo taking over to anchor the front court.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, it remains unknown how long Zeller will be sidelined because of the injury, with team sources saying that it's too soon to tell. However, depending on the extent of the injury, the 28-year-old big man could be out for more more than a week.

Before exiting the game against the Cavs, Cody Zeller played for 19 minutes and recorded six points, three rebounds, three steals and one block on 3-of-6 shooting from the field. Biyombo, who ended up playing 24 minutes, finished with 11 points, four rebounds and one block.

The Hornets fought hard to keep the game competitive, with Terry Rozier even exploding for 42 points on 10-of-16 shooting from beyond the arc. However, his efforts were not enough to counter the big games from Collin Sexton and Darius Garland, who combined for 49 points, eight rebounds and 11 assists on just four total turnovers for the Cavs.

Zeller's injury is undoubtedly a huge  blow for a Hornets team that is already lacking depth in almost all areas. In his absence, Biyombo is expected to pick up the slack, while rookie Vernon Carey Jr. could also see some playing time.
