A day after Tony Romo‘s heartfelt press conference conceding the starting quarterback spot to Dak Prescott, head coach Jason Garrett met with Romo. The longtime duo discussed the franchise's plan for Romo moving forward, including their usage of him in practice.

Last week, Romo received a few snaps with the first team as he works to get up to speed. That will increase this week.

First team snaps

From ESPN's Todd Archer:

Jason Garrett has made a change to the practice schedule that will allow Tony Romo to get some work with the Cowboys first team offense. In the past the backup has not gotten any work during the week but this year Mark Sanchez received one series of work on Fridays. Now Romo will get more than that behind Dak Prescott.

Even though Romo has been relegated to the backup QB spot, Garrett wants him to be ready at a moment's notice.

Garrett, from ESPN's Jeff Darlington and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Charean Williams:

Jason Garrett on Tony Romo's role right now: “Prepare to play.”

“He’s going to get ready for the opportunity to play if called upon and be a great teammate each and every day.”

Making the decision to continue starting Prescott official was necessary, according to Garrett. He doesn't want his rookie QB to feel the added pressure of playing for his job.

From Darlington:

“We certainly don't want any of our players looking over their shoulders. We want to instill confidence.”

Garrett also addressed Romo's passionate speech yesterday, which he found quite admirable.

From David Moore of the Dallas Morning News:

“I thought he did a really nice job sharing with people where he is,” Garrett said during his Wednesday news conference. “He and I had a really good visit today about the focus that he needs to have today in preparing for what his role is going to be on Sunday if all goes well this week.”
