UFC 301: Alexandre Pantoja vs. Steve Erceg continues on the prelims with a fight in the featherweight division between Jean Silva and William Gomis. Silva is coming off a dominant first-round knockout in his UFC debut meanwhile, Gomis is riding an 11-fight winning streak coming into his fourth UFC bout. With that said, check out our UFC odds series for our Silva-Gomis prediction and pick.

Jean Silva (12-2) secured his contract in the UFC after a war with the undefeated Kevin Vallejos who he took from the ranks of the unbeaten on the Contender Series. He then was given a short-notice opportunity after Gabriel Santos had to withdraw from his bout against Westin Wilson. Silva then dispatched Wilson in the first round in brutal fashion and he will be looking to do the same when he takes on France's William Gomis this weekend at UFC 301.

William Gomis (13-2) is finally getting back in the Octagon after two fight cancelations back-to-back. He has now won 11 straight fights with three of those wins coming in the UFC. Gomis will be looking for his fourth win inside the Octagon and his 12th win in a row when he takes on the dangerous Brazilian Jean Silva this weekend at UFC 301.

Why Jean Silva Will Win

Jean Silva made a name for himself on the Contender Series when he defeated the unbeaten Kevin Vallejos in a back-and-forth battle to the very end which he then secured his contract. Silva was then called upon to make his short-notice UFC debut when he knocked out Westin Wilson in round one. Now, he will be looking to extend his winning streak to 10 and get his second win inside the Octagon when he takes on William Gomis.

Silva is a product of the Fighting Nerds and will be taking the Octagon with his teammates Mauricio Ruffy and Caio Borralho this weekend. He is a very dangerous striker who is always looking to take his opponent's head off every chance that he gets with his forward relentless pressure. His best bet in this fight is to throw caution to the wind and walk down Gomis and land heavy strikes every chance that he gets. It's up to Silva to avoid being stuck on the outside of the range of Gomis by throwing heavy calf kicks, getting on the inside of the reach of Gomis, and landing heavy hooks. If he can do that he has the chance to make it knockout number 10 and win his second fight inside the Octagon.

Why William Gomis Will Win

William Gomis is a product of the MMA Factory in France training with the likes of Ciryl Gane and Nassourdine Imavov. He came into his UFC debut riding an 8-fight winning streak and has now won all three of his fights inside the Octagon. He most recently knocked out Yanis Ghemmouri in his last fight with a brutal body kick in round three. Now, Gomis will be looking to make it 12 wins in a row and four inside the Octagon when he takes on Brazil's Jean Silva this weekend at UFC 301.

Gomis isn't a fighter that will wow you like his counterpart Jean Silva but he is a very tough opponent to gameplan against. Much like other fighters that come out of MMA Factory, Gomis does his best work on the feet and at range where he can utilize his speed, footwork, and kickboxing to outstrike his opponents and keep them at the end of his strikes. That is something he must do against an overly aggressive Silva in this matchup. As long as Gomis doesn't get caught brawling with Silva, he has the technical striking ability to counter him as he comes within range and utilizes his movement to pot-shot his way to his fourth UFC victory.

Final Jean Silva-William Gomis Prediction & Pick

This should be a very interesting matchup between the very aggressive and powerful Jean Silva and the savvy counterstriking of William Gomis. Silva is certainly the much more exciting fighter in this matchup that will be looking for the finish every moment he's throwing strikes meanwhile, Gomis is going to look to stay on the outside, defend takedowns, and pick Silva apart at range. Ultimately, we can expect Silva to come forward throwing heavy calf kicks and thunderous hooks but it will be Gomis who will be well-equipped for that and he will utilize his kicks and his speed to just counter Silva's forward pressure and pick him apart throughout the fight to take the nod on the judge's scorecards.
