New York Knicks head coach Jeff Hornacek seems to have solved the mystery behind his team’s poor showing this season. The 53-year-old believes that the triangle offense is the key and that they would have performed much better had they decided to fully embrace it from the get-go.

“If we turn around and have a different way we start, go right at however we're going to run it next year, if it's full triangle, it's possible,” said Hornacek when asked about his team being playoffs-ready, per ESPN.com. “You never know how these things will fit. Maybe a second year is helpful for us.”

Not only did he affirm his unyielding belief in the triangle offense, but the coach even suggested that he may decide to use it exclusively next year. Surely this puts a smile on the face of Knicks president Phil Jackson, who is one of the main propagators of this system and the driving force behind this being used in New York.

Hornacek went on to explain that this year was more of an experiment of how the new system could co-exist with the type of play that the team had grown accustomed to.

“We were trying to find a balance”, he added. “We were trying to open the game up so the current players could run some of that stuff and still have the triangle set where we can get into some stuff. As it turns out, looking back, it probably wasn't the greatest thing to do because you're not focused on one or the other. You're not getting enough of the same repetition of the same play and they can make reads off it. It's something we have to make a decision on and just go with it.”

Although this may be a start, a lot of other aspects within the team still requires fixing before they enter the 2017-18 season. For one, the front office will need to make a decision on their superstar Carmelo Anthony. Does he still figure in the future plans of the franchise or will they decide to finally pull the plug on the 32-year-old’s Knicks career and trade him to another team?
