After his efforts in helping tornado victims in New Orleans and his continuous commitment to promote gender equality, Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday has been awarded with the NBA's Community Assist Award for the month of March.

The 26-year-old UCLA product has also donated $31,000 for immediate help to families affected by the tornado, and also pledged $1,000 for every point and assist he recorded during their regular season game against the San Antonio Spurs on March 3.

Holiday released an official statement, via Amos Morale III of NOLA.com, and said that he finds it fulfilling to help others in need and added that he uses basketball as a platform to promote the causes he supports.

“Working in the community and assisting others is a blessing that I find very fulfilling and rewarding. I don't take for granted the platform I have playing basketball or the perspective I have gained from giving back, and that motivates me to get involved with matters close to my heart.”

Fans in New Orleans will definitely be proud of their starting point guard, especially with how he has helped the residents of the city. Despite not making it to the playoffs, the Pelicans can see this as a consolation, and something that can motivate them to play better next season, in hopes of bringing more of joy to their supporters.
