John Calipari and his Kentucky Wildcats failed to advance to the SEC Tournament championship game after they got dropped in the semifinals by the Tennessee Volunteers. The 69-62 loss to the Vols surely hurts the Wildcats' aspirations to notch a top seed on Selection Sunday, but at least they got to witness Oscar Tshiebwe make school history Saturday night.

Via ESPN Stats & Info:

Kentucky's Oscar Tshiebwe records his 27th double-double this season. That breaks the Kentucky program record of 26 set by Dan Issel in 1969-70.

Tshiebwe delivered 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Wildcats in a losing effort. He shot 5/10 from the field, but that efficiency on offense did not rub off on most other Kentucky players, as the team finished the contest with a 34.4 percent shooting from the floor.

Nevertheless, the Wildcats are virtually assured of a spot in the Big Dance. Perhaps the biggest drama for them at the moment is whether the selection committee would award them a No. 1 seed despite the outcome of the Tennessee game. Prior to that, Tshiebwe and the Wildcats had a three-game win streak, going back to the regular season.

The SEC Tournament championship game will be played on Sunday, with the Volunteers squaring off with another surprise finalist in the form of the Texas A&M Aggies.
