The Sacramento Kings have ushered in a bit of a youth movement in recent years. Regardless, it appears they are still hoping to keep a familiar face in center Kosta Koufos around.

Koufos is set to test the market as a free agent this offseason. According to James Ham of NBC Sports, the Kings still have some interest in bringing him back:

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the Kings haven’t closed the door on a reunion with the team’s longest-tenured player. The Kings hope to improve their frontline in free agency, but that doesn’t exclude a return by Koufos.

The prospect of Koufos being open to re-signing with Sacramento may seem a bit far-fetched at this point. He has spent the last four seasons as a stabilizing factor in the frontcourt amidst some significant changes to the team. Unfortunately, he saw his role dwindle considerably last year after averaging 3.7 points and 4.2 rebounds in just 12 minutes per game on a team that struggled to compete for playoff contention.

If Koufos is going to play reserve minutes, it is safe to assume he is looking to do it for a legitimate contender moving forward. The veteran has taken on whatever role that has been asked of him throughout his career, however, it has not gotten him any closer to a return to the postseason in recent years. At this point, he may need to consider which team gives him the best chance of doing so. It will be interesting to see whether or not Koufos is entertaining the idea of staying in Sacramento.
