The Sacramento Kings will temporarily bolster their point guard position with the signing of Jordan Farmar, the team announced Wednesday.

The Kings have been looking to add depth at the position after Darren Collison‘s eight-game suspension, but per league rules, a player cannot be put into the “suspended” list until after five games, freeing up a temporary roster spot for Farmar.

His salary will be $8,298, resulting in a $66,000 cap hit for the team, according to Bobby Marks of The Vertical.

The apparent plan would be to keep Farmar on the roster for the next three games, then waive him once Collison returns from his suspension.

The nine-year pro out of UCLA played with the Kings in the preseason and should have familiarity with the system, which makes it a no-brainer candidate to back up Ty Lawson.
