Devin Booker‘s 70 points against the Boston Celtics put the basketball world on notice last night. If fans hadn't had the chance to know who this kid is or didn't get to watch many Phoenix Suns games because of their lack of nationally televised games, they've now likely watched minutes-worth of highlight reels of his historic performance.

The 20-year-old assassin became the youngest player in NBA history to score as many as 60 points in a game, breaking Jerry West‘s record when he was 23 years old during the 1961-62 season.

Booker also produced the league's highest-scoring game since Kobe Bryant famously scored 81 points against the Toronto Raptors in January 2006.

The second-year guard was quickly inundated with social media posts from many around the league, including The Black Mamba himself, whom he drew inspiration from, scoring with reckless abandon in the second half.

Booker became just the sixth player to ever score 70 points or more in a game, joining Bryant and Hall of Famers Wilt Chamberlain, David Robinson, David Thompson and Elgin Baylor.

Not only did Booker break the Suns' single-game scoring record of 60 points, set by Tom Chambers in 1990, but according to Elias Sports Bureau, he also became the first player to score 70 points in a game without any prior 40-point games (previous career-high of 39 points).

In 71 games this season, Devin Booker is averaging 21.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game.
