For the past 10 games, the Los Angeles Lakers have played without leading scorer LeBron James and playmaker Rajon Rondo. The team has struggled on both ends of the floor ever since. This was when Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram decided to assume the leadership role.

The former second overall picks admitted that they had a conversation prior to their game with the Dallas Mavericks a few days ago, and they came out firing. Ingram led the Lakers with 29 points and six assists, while Ball had 21 markers, seven rebounds, and five dimes. The team managed to snag a 107-97 come-from-behind win.

According to Lakers beat writer Ryan Ward of ClutchPoints, Ball said that they wanted to carry their momentum against the Pistons.

While all eyes were on sophomore forward Kyle Kuzma's career night, the tandem of Ingram and Ball looked aggressive all game. The former had ten points, nine boards, and six assists while the latter put up five points, five rebounds, and 11 dimes.

Despite the fact that Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram combined to shoot 6-of-16 from the field (37.5 percent), head coach Luke Walton acknowledged their effort and aggressiveness against Detroit.

But in order for the Lakers to win, they will need more consistent production from their prized youngsters as three of their next six games will be against Western Conference contenders (Warriors, Thunder, Rockets).

They are still not expected to have James and Rondo back anytime soon, and a losing record in the said stretch will likely jeopardize their chances of staying in the playoff race.
