The Los Angeles Lakers are making moves ahead of what is expected to be an extremely busy NBA free agency period for the storied franchise. The team is pulling out all the stops in their efforts to sign as many as two superstars this summer with LeBron James and Paul George more than likely being their top-two targets.

Along with their plans to become instant title contenders this summer, the team must clean house with a significant amount of players from last year's roster potentially looking for work this summer. One of those players is journeyman point guard Tyler Ennis who the team announced was waived on Thursday.

Ennis was originally acquired by the Lakers in a trade with the Houston Rockets ahead of the NBA trade deadline in February of last year. Los Angeles sent point guard Marcelo Huertas to Houston in exchange.

The move was made on Thursday because Ennis' contract for next season would be guaranteed beyond July 5. The Syracuse product was obviously not in the team's long-term plans, especially with the Lakers needing as much cap space as possible heading into free agency.

The team will also have to make decisions on Iviza Zubac and Thomas Bryant in the coming days, according to Bobby Marks of ESPN.

It'll be interesting to see what the team does with both players considering their plans to make major moves in free agency. Both Bryant and Zubac have shown promise, but it remains to be seen whether it's enough to merit another season in Los Angeles.

As for Ennis, the 23-year-old averaged 5.2 points, 2.1 assists, and 1.6 rebounds per game in 76 games for the Lakers.
