Since coaching the Warriors to a 39-4 start to the regular season, Warriors' assistant coach Luke Walton has become a hot commodity for head coaching positions around the league. However, don't expect him to be leaving any time soon.

It was previously rumored that Walton had met with Phil Jackson regarding the Knicks‘ head coaching position, but those rumors were denied by both parties.

In a recent interview with Tim Kawakami of the Mercury News, Walton cleared up rumors about the conversation with Phil Jackson and talked about his love for his current job in Oakland.

Per Mercury News:

“I talked to Phil, but I always talk to Phil. He's a mentor of mine,” Walton said. “There was no job interview whatsoever. It was just a conversation which is not that rare for Phil and I to have.”

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has said that he will eventually give the Knicks' permission to interview Luke, but not in the middle of their playoff series with the Rockets. He will be permitted to interview between rounds one and two, assuming the Warriors make it that far.

Walton shared similar statements that gave no indication of any intention to leave the Warriors next season.

“I'm very comfortable and I love where I'm at right now,” he said. “I love coming to work every day. I also do want to be a head coach some day, whether that's next year or the year after that. I'm going to pursue those opportunities. But knowing while I'm doing that, that I love my job here. So I'm not going to rush off into anything else.”

The Warriors currently lead the Rockets 2-0 in the first round of the playoffs. Given the way the Rockets have been playing, it could be a short series with a few more days off and time for Walton to pursue other potential teams. As a former Laker under, there have been  rumors about both him and Jackson returning to Los Angeles to help rebuild the team, but at this point it's all just speculation.

As for now, it doesn't sound like Luke is in any rush to leave the Warriors right at the peak of the franchise's history.

“I love the idea of that challenge, of trying to rebuild and kind of recreate what we have here. That sounds like it's a lot of fun and something I'd be interested in. But that doesn’t need to be next year.”
