Why The Marlins Will Cover The Spread/Win

Cabrera has had a few rough starts in a row leading into this game, but he is still a great pitcher. Cabrera's strikeout rate is in the 96 percentile while his xoBA, fastball velo, average exit velocity, hard hit percentage, chase percentage, and whiff percentage are all in the 80th percentile or better. The Marlins need Cabrera to have a good start against a tough offense. However, if he is on, he is going to be extremely hard to hit. If Cabrera is at his best, the Marlins will win this game.

Why The Dodgers Will Cover The Spread/Win

Yamamoto is pitching like the pitcher the Dodgers were hoping he would be this season. He allowed five runs over one inning of work in his first start, but the rest have been very good. Taking out his first start of the season, Yamamoto has a 1.64 ERA, 0.970 WHIP, and 40 strikeouts to just seven walks. He has been able to throw the ball very well after the rough outing, and that should continue in this one. In fact, Yamamoto has thrown two scoreless outings in his last two starts. If he can continue that in this one, the Dodgers are going to win this game with ease.

The Marlins lead the MLB in chase rate and swing percentage, and they have the fifth-lowest barrel percentage. Now that Miami has traded Luis Arraez, their offense has taken a massive hit. They do not have many other hitters in their lineup that they can totally count on. Expect Yamamoto to really shut down the Marlins in this game because of that. With Yamamoto on the mound, the Dodgers should be able to win this game.

One thing that needs to be said is how good the Dodgers are offensively. Los Angeles leads the MLB in batting average by a large margin, and they are tied for the lead in slugging percentage. Los Angeles has also been able to cut down on their strikeouts while taking plenty of walks. The Dodgers find a way to catch plenty of barrels, they hit the ball hard in the air. If the Dodgers continue this, they are going to easily win this game.

Final Marlins-Dodgers Prediction & Pick

This can end up being a very good pitching matchup. However, I like the Dodgers to win this game and cover the spread. Yamamoto is throwing the ball very well, and I am fully expecting that to continue in this game. With Yamamoto on the mound, the Dodgers offense, and the struggles of the Marlins this season, I am expecting the Dodgers to win this game by more than one run.
