Memphis Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley Jr. has suffered a transverse process fracture in the vertebrae, sources told Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical. He will “likely” be out six to eight weeks with the injury, per ESPN's Jeff Goodman.

The injury took place in the third quarter of the Grizzlies' 104-85 Monday night loss the Charlotte Hornets as Conley attempted to take a charge on Michael Kidd-Gilchrist in a drive to the basket, as center Frank Kaminsky partly landed on him right after.

The Grizzlies signed Conley to the most lucrative contract in NBA history over the summer — a five-year deal worth $153 million. The Ohio State product is averaging a career-high 19.7 points, 5.7 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting career-bests 46.7 percent from deep and 89.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Memphis is currently 11-7 thus far in the season and fifth overall in the Western Conference standings. The Grizzlies were a dismal 9-21 last season without their starting point guard.
