Jose Calderon's career in the NBA may be nearing its end. For whatever reason, the Spanish-born point guard was not offered a contract this summer. As a result, he remains a free agent. And given the fact that he doesn't want to play in any other league, he's reportedly contemplating retirement.

The career of the most relevant Extremaduran athlete in history may be over. Jose Manuel Calderon is still an NBA free agent and, given his refusal to play in another league, he’s seriously considering retirement and embarking on a new life.

Calderon, who turns 38 on September 28, established himself as a reliable point guard throughout the course of his career. He has great handles and a smooth shooting stroke, but it's his keen court vision that set him apart.

Most NBA aficionados would likely agree that Calderon's best days in the NBA came during his stint with the Toronto Raptors, who signed the crafty guard on August 3, 2005. In his fourth season with the team (2008-09), he turned in averages of 12.8 points on 49.6 percent shooting from the field (40.6 percent from beyond the arc), 8.9 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 34.3 minutes per outing.

Calderon went on to play for several other teams after his run with the Raptors, including the Detroit Pistons, Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks and Cleveland Cavaliers. In the latter stages of his career, though, he mostly served as a solid option off the bench.

Whether or not Calderon will indeed choose to retire is still up for speculation. He's kept his body in shape, according to reports. Let's see if he gets a call.
