One of best feel-good stories of this whole Team USA camp so far has been that of Paul George.

It’s hard to forget that one eventful national team scrimmage where George ended up with one of the most gruesome basketball injuries ever. His leg was fractured in a grotesque manner than it had to be covered instantly by towels. Fans and players alike cringed at the scene.

That was back in 2014, a couple of years after, the Indiana Pacers superstar is playing like nothing happened. To begin with though, getting back on the court was the least of everyone’s concern when the injury was sustained.

In an interview for USA Today Sports, George revealed the toughest part in his comeback trail – and it wasn’t even about his leg.

“Ninety percent of the whole rehab is mental. You’re doing the same stuff, day after day, that gets tiring. It’s tedious work rehabbing. That was really the whole battle was how do I keep motivation.”

In fact, the injury that he sustained looked worse that it actually was in terms of the damage. The bone naturally heals and it gets stronger, but George was lucky to have no major damage to his veins. But getting out of that shell and shaking off the trauma is a different story.

Paul George currently enjoys a major role in Team USA and he hopes to take this experience over to Indiana when training camp resumes. After everything that he has been through, no matter how many times he fall, we now know his true mettle.
