The Phillies face the Reds in Cincinnati! Both teams come into this series scorching hot with each being on a win streak, so something has to give. Our MLB odds series has our Phillies-Reds prediction, odds, and pick for Wednesday.

The Phillies have been playing great this season with a 14-8 record and winning six straight and seven of their last eight. The bats have started to gain momentum and they have jumped to the top half of the MLB. By contrast, the pitching for the Phillies has been great as a top-10 unit so far this season. On offense, Trea Turner, Kyle Schwarber, and Alec Bohm have been the standouts with Bryce Harper and Brandon Marsh also hanging around too behind the plate. The pitching trio of Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, and Ranger Suarez have been solid on the mound and their start has been huge with their bats being slower to warm up this season. The Phillies have the talent to be a force this season and they are showcasing that with their current winning streak.

The Reds have also been playing well to start the season with a 12-9 record and they have won three straight games heading into this game. The Reds have struggled to get going behind the plate ranking in near the bottom of the MLB in team batting average. Their pitching has been a strength, ranking in the top half of the league in pitching ERA. Spencer Steer, Elly De La Cruz, and Jake Fraley have been standouts in a struggling offense to start the season. Andrew Abbott has been an ace for the Reds on the mound, while Hunter Greene is behind him as their second-best pitcher so far this season. Something needs to give when these two teams meet with each of their winning streaks.

Why The Phillies Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Phillies are putting Cristopher Sanchez on the mound where he has a 1-2 record, a 2.53 ERA, and a 1.31 WHIP. Through 21.1 innings, Sanchez has allowed eight runs on 20 hits with eight walks and 25 strikeouts. The Phillies are 1-3 in the four games that he's appeared in this season. In his last start, he threw six innings, allowing one run on five hits with one walk and 10 strikeouts  Last season, Sanchez had a 3-5 record, a 3.44 ERA, and 1.05 WHIP. He is playing much better to start this season than last season. This could be a good chance for him to get going on the mound more because the Reds have struggled up to this point on the plate.

The offense for the Phillies started slow this season, but on this winning streak has emerged and been a massive key to their success. The Phillies are 13th in the MLB in team batting average at .247 after having a team batting average of .256 last season where they finished ninth. Trea Turner is the main leader for the Phillies in most of the offensive categories. He leads in batting average at .348, in OBP at .402, and then in total hits at 31. Kyle Schwarber is the leader in home runs for now at six, while Alec Bohm leads the team in RBI at 18 up to this point. This is going to be a good test for their offense because the Reds have been solid on the mound.

Why The Reds Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Reds are putting Andrew Abbott on the mound where he has a 1-2 record, a 2.70 ERA, and a 1.07 WHIP. Through 23.1 innings, he has allowed eight runs on 18 hits and three home runs with seven walks and 17 strikeouts up to this point in the season. In his four appearances, the Reds are 2-2 in the four games that he's appeared in this season. In his last start, he threw six innings allowing two runs on four hits with two home runs, three walks, and six strikeouts. Last season for his rookie season, he had an 8-6 record, 3.87 ERA, and a 1.32 WHIP. Abbott has emerged as their best pitcher after his rookie season, but he has a tough matchup in this game against the Phillies offense.

The Reds have struggled on offense to start the season. They have a .225 batting average which is ranked 24th in the MLB and that's after they had a .249 batting average. Spencer Steer leads the way in most batting categories next to Elly De La Cruz. Steer leads in batting average at .307, in RBI at 18, in OBP at .416, and in total hits at 23. De La Cruz then leads in home runs at six. This is going to be a tough matchup because Sanchez has been very good on the mound and there has not been much to like for the Reds with their bats.

Final Phillies-Reds Prediction & Pick

The Phillies are red-hot heading into this game with a six-game winning streak heading into this game. Sanchez has been good for the Phillies, but their offense is the biggest key for them in this game. Abbott is the best pitcher for the Reds this year, but the firepower for the Phillies has gained a lot of steam recently. This game should be close, but the Phillies continue their streak and win this game.
