The Kawhi Leonard sweepstakes continue. The latest in the seemingly endless trade rumors surrounding the San Antonio Spurs star has shifted speculation towards the Toronto Raptors as the new favorites to land Leonard.

According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, bookmakers are leaning towards the Raptors acquiring the superstar. Still, Stein isn't as quick to anoint Toronto:

“I just spent a few days at the N.B.A.’s annual summer league in Las Vegas, where buzz about Toronto trying to work its way into the Kawhi Leonard trade sweepstakes was constant. But is it real? The offshore oddsmakers who establish betting lines on these things certainly think so, because the Raptors have suddenly emerged as the bookies’ favorites to land Leonard via trade. I can’t say I’d make the same forecast — at least not yet.”

So while the Raptors may be realistic contenders to trade for Leonard, it appears there still may be some uncertainty around his future.

It's unclear whether Leonard would be interested in signing a long-term deal with Toronto, which could prove to be a significant hold up in a trade. The Raptors may be hesitant to deal significant assets for a one-year rental. Conversely, the Spurs want to recoup as much as they can. With Leonard's stated preference being a return home to Los Angeles, few suitors are willing to part ways with future assets.

Despite recent speculation Toronto is making a play for Leonard, this is still a fluid situation and appears far from over.
