The NBA has seen a lot of changes in the past two decades. From rules to the level of talent the players have, the game has drastically changed in some areas.

One aspect that's seen great change is on the offensive end, as teams are now scoring more than ever. Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle has taken notice to this and recently gave his thoughts as he discussed the improved skill set of big men in the NBA today, and also how coaches teach players about the game at a young age.

To put his statement into perspective, there has been an increase of more than 10 points in average points per game since 2001. Almost 17 years ago, NBA teams scored 95.1 points per game, compared to this season, where it's already up to 105.5 per game.

The development of players around the world has made the league even more competitive, and the ability to score in different ways has affected defensive sets. It may have a negative effect, especially on players not placing a premium on defense, but it can also be seen as a challenge for the coaches to innovate new strategies to further evolve the game.
