Houston Rockets guard Gerald Green underwent successful surgery to repair his broken left foot. The team has announced that he will miss roughly the next six months, which basically means he'll be out for the entire regular season, per Chron.com.

Green suffered the injury in one of the Rockets' preseason games in Tokyo, Japan.

The Rockets are expected to apply for a disabled player exception, and if granted, they will be able to free up a roster spot which they can use to sign a player for half of Green's salary. They could also trade for a player, but they would have to add cash considerations to make things work.

Green, a 12-year veteran, has spent the last two seasons with the Rockets. He became a vital piece of the team's second unit, as he averaged 10.2 points and shot 35 percent from beyond the arc during his time in Houston. He was projected to be the primary backup at the swingman positions behind James Harden.

The only chance for Green to be able to play this season is if the Rockets will make it at least to the Western Conference Finals — something that is very doable considering that they have two of the best guards in the league in Harden and Russell Westbrook.

The Rockets have split the first two games of the season as they lost their season opener to the Milwaukee Bucks but then bounced back to earn a close win against the New Orleans Pelicans.

We'll see what the Rockets do to fill the void left by Green.
