Russell Westbrook recording triple-doubles has been a normal occurrence this season, that many are surprised whenever he doesn't record one during a game. On Wednesday night, he notched his 38th of the campaign, but it wasn't just any ordinary one.

By finishing with 57 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists against the Orlando Magic, the Oklahoma City Thunder point guard made history by dropping the most points in a triple-double effort in NBA history.

With only eight games left on their schedule, Westbrook can replicate Oscar Robertson‘s feat back in the 1961-1962 season by averaging a triple-double for the entire regular season. He is currently averaging a league-leading 31.4 points, to go along with 10.5 rebounds and 10.4 assists.

The Brodie is also one of the favorites to win the MVP award this season. Should he be successful in averaging double digits in three statistical cetagories, it will further strengthen his case to lift the Maurice Podoloff Trophy when the smoke clears.

However, individual accolades are not his main priority as he is focused on leading the Thunder to a deep playoff run starting next month. They now have a 43-31 win-loss slate, which is good for sixth place in the Western Conference, but they have placed themselves in a good spot to overtake the L.A. Clippers and Utah Jazz to still move up the standings.
