In 13 years as the head coach of the New Orleans Saints, Sean Payton has led the team to eight playoff appearances, eight 10-plus win seasons, a Super Bowl victory and a 131-77 overall record. Despite Payton's pedigree of success and him being widely accepted as one of the league's best coaches, former NFL wide receiver Brandon Marshall isn't impressed.

In the first episode of Marshall's “I Am Athlete” podcast with former pros Reggie Wayne, Channing Crowder and Fred Taylor, the six-time Pro Bowler let his opinion on the Saints coach be known.

“I personally think the problem in New Orleans is Coach Payton,” Brandon Marshall said, via Bleacher Report. “I think he's the problem.”

Marshall, who played 13 NFL seasons with seven different teams, argued that with a core of Drew Brees, Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas, Payton should have been able to win multiple Super Bowls with the Saints.

While the Saints haven't been to the Super Bowl since their win in 2010, they have gotten close many times in the past few seasons, including being one pivotal call away from possibly making the game in 2019.

Payton has stated that 2020 will be Drew Brees' final season, and with Thomas and Kamara being among the best players at their positions, it could be a great opportunity for Payton to prove Marshall wrong.

Last season, Sean Payton led the Saints to a 13-3 regular season but ended up falling to the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Wild Card round.

As for Marshall, the veteran wideout was actually signed by New Orleans in November of 2018 but failed to appear in a game and was released just one month later.
