The St. John's basketball team was close to making it into the NCAA Tournament last season, but they came up a little bit short. Next season will be year two for head coach Rick Pitino, and it will be an expectation for the Red Storm to make it into the tournament. Pitino and his staff have been working hard this offseason to build the best possible roster, and they have done a good job in the transfer portal doing so. One big addition is Seton Hall transfer Kadary Richmond.

Rick Pitino has added some great transfer portal additions to this St. John's basketball team this offseason. Kadary Richmond is one of them, and these players will be very important next year. However, Pitino knows that his returners from last year's squad are just as important.

“The first thing I want to say is that me and everyone in the St John’s community is very appreciative to RJ, Zuby, Sim, Brady, and Diku for staying,” Pitino said in a tweet. “You are so crucial to our Success!”

Pitino is also excited about the newcomers. He is very familiar with the play of Richmond as he is coming over from Seton Hall. The Pirates and St. John's did battle last season in the Big East, so Pitino got to watch him play up close, and he was impressed by him. Now, Richmond is coming to play for the Red Storm.

“Secondly, Kadary Richmond is a player I admired so much in the Big East,” Pitino added. “He’s a great jump shot away from playing for the Knicks. Awesome talent and we are so excited to have him. Sim, Deivon, and now Kadary, along with our young talents, is a dream backcourt. Let's Go Johnnies!”

This has been a good offseason for Pitino and St. John's, and they have a very talented roster for next season.

Kadary Richmond is certainly someone that St. John's basketball fans should be excited about. Richmond had a ton of success in the Big East last season, and he should be able to do the same thing next year for the Red Storm.

Richmond ended up finishing the season averaging 15.7 PPG, 7.0 RPG and 5.1 APG. He was one of the best players that Seton Hall had last year, and he should be one of the best players for the Red Storm as well.

St. John's has added three other talented players from the transfer portal this offseason as well. The Red Storm have also landed Utah transfer Deivon Smith, USC transfer Vincent Iwuchukwu and North Texas transfer Aaron Scott.

The Red Storm have a big season ahead of them, and Rick Pitino knows it. This is a big offseason for them, and he has done a good job so far of making sure this roster has the talent to take the next step next season. The talent is there, now St. John's needs to make sure these guys can gel together so they can take full advantage of the skill that they have.
