A number of teams are expected to have a busy summer, as they weigh in on the future of some of their players. One of them will be the Detroit Pistons, who will need to decide what to do with the contract situation of their starting shooting guard, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

Understanding that the 24-year-old Georgia product is slated to become a restricted free agent, head coach and team president Stan Van Gundy discussed what the Pistons need to do to keep him in the Motor City.

Caldwell-Pope is expected to draw a lot of interest from teams around the league especially after a very solid season where he is averaging 14.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game. He has shown a lot of maturity in his game and that he can be a reliable second or third option for a team.

He has also improved his shooting from the field and has learned to avoid forcing shots, which he received a lot of criticism on during his early days in the league. Should the Pistons decide not to match an offer he'll receive, they will have a hard time replacing him in their lineup. However, they will also need to be careful not to overspend on him as there may be other options they can get from the free agent market that can save them a lot of money.

The situation of the Pistons is certainly worth monitoring as it will be interesting to see how things will unfold for them. If there's one thing certain at this point, Van Gundy and company will have a lot to ponder on as their decision may dictate the direction of the team in the future.
