The 1999-2000 NBA Rookie of the Year Steve Francis has gone from rags to riches, and back to rags again after he was recently arrested for a DWI and marijuana possession in Houston.

At the time, police in Manatee, Florida, wanted to talk to Francis about a car burglary dating back to June — where Francis had already turned himself in, when Francis broke into a car outside a bar and restaurant, taking a wallet, gold jewelry, cash and other items.

A couple of days later, Francis turned himself and the items in as the police filed a report and have now arrested him, according to TMZ Sports:

“As we previously reported, the ex-NBA star was wanted by cops in Manatee, Florida after he allegedly ransacked a stranger’s car back in June and stole over $7k in stuff…

According to jail records, Francis turned himself in early Monday on a burglary of an unoccupied conveyance charge — a 3rd degree felony that carries up to 5 years in prison. His bond is set at $1,500.”

Steve Francis was a three-time All-Star during his nine seasons in the NBA, including five with the Houston Rockets, earning more than $103 million in salary during his pro career.
