The Phoenix Suns have tough decisions to make before their final roster is set, and it looks like Davon Reed will be one of the roster-crunching casualties. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Suns are exploring potential trades for Reed and will waive the second-year player if they cannot find a trading partner.

Wojnarowski also points out that the Suns need to trim their roster by three to cut down to 15 for opening night.

Reed appeared in 21 games for the Suns last season (starting in one game) and averaged 3.0 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.6 assists per game. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard played sparingly in those games, and it's clear he didn't show the Suns enough to keep him on the roster.

Reed was drafted by Phoenix with the second pick of the second round in 2017. He spent some time with the Suns' G League affiliate, the Northern Arizona Suns. His counting stats were much better in the G League, but his shooting percentages were concerning. He scored 10.3 points per game, but he shot 31.6 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from 3-point range.

The Suns are in desperate need for young players to step up and help kickstart the rebuild. Unfortunately, they don't see Reed fitting into their long-term plans.

Phoenix's front office is currently undergoing serious turnover after Ryan McDonough and much of his staff was let go. James Jones is in place as the interim general manager for the time being.
