One of the biggest stories of the last two years has been the relationship between Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant, but former Oklahoma City Thunder teammate Anthony Morrow is setting the record straight. According to Ben Stinar of Amico Hoops, Morrow believes the problems between the two became way overblown. Morrow said:

“I feel like they outgrew each other. They tried it for 10 years; they went to the Finals. I tell them all the time after the fact. … I think they just outgrew each other in terms of their personalities and their games.

“You see how they communicate and interact now. It was never anything personal or some life stuff, and the media spun it to make it like this big beef.”

The narrative became larger than life and there was a perceived hatred between the two. But it sounds like this wasn't exactly the case. The pair came really close to winning a title together in 2012 when they fell to the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals, as well as in 2016 when they fell to the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals.

10 years is a long time to be teammates. People change over time and eventually move on. In any profession, 10 years is a long time to be in one place and working that closely with another person.

Not to mention, both players have had immense success following the split. No doubt, Durant has had much greater success by winning two titles and two Finals MVPs. But Westbrook has an MVP to his name and has averaged a triple-double in two straight seasons.

Both players are doing fine despite whatever narrative is circulating.
