As the Minnesota Timberwolves close out the season in a few days, the team can finally reflect on the year that was for the Twin Cities. Brimming with promise back in the preseason, the reality that is the Timberwolves’ youth kicked in and the team’s losses piled up.

Karl-Anthony Towns was spectacular. Andrew Wiggins displayed improvement. Ricky Rubio eventually caught his stride. But behind these silver linings, the problem with the rotations and maturity was evident.

No, they weren’t becoming locker room problems. But they did have some serious trouble protecting leads which is an apparent sign of their lack in experience, and their recent loss to the Portland Trail Blazers compounded to their misery.

21. That number is no joke; had they managed to win even half of that amount, the Timberwolves would’ve been in a prime position to make the playoffs albeit as a lower seeded team. The experience they could’ve gotten out of that would’ve been tremendous as they take the next step in their development.

Despite all these, the Timberwolves remain as one of the future powerhouses of the league with a generational stud in Karl-Anthony Towns leading the way, backed up by an equally promising support crew and the guidance of Tom Thibodeau.
