Game 6 was not even close. It was the momentum shifter that the Minnesota Timberwolves needed to win over Nikola Jokic's Denver Nuggets. Everyone on Chirs Finch's squad was executing flawlessly on offense. Their defensive coverages were also extremely tight by the end of this NBA Playoffs clash. While Anthony Edwards got a lot of praise for shutting down Jamal Murray, Jaden McDaniels also got a lot of love from his teammates.
The team chemistry within the Timberwolves system is actually insane. Anthony Edwards has a lot of belief in his brothers, especially Jaden McDaniels. When they learned that the Phoenix Suns would be in their way during the NBA Playoffs, that trust came in very handy. The Timberwolves' wing defender immediately paid that trust back by shutting down his opponents in the first round. Now, he did the same to the Nuggets when the Timberwolves faced a do-or-die situation, via Timberwolves Clips.
“This guy right here, he led us tonight. I told somebody before, everybody on our team is a leader. He was the leader tonight. He stepped it up big time,” Anthony Edwards said about his teammate.
Jaden McDaniels was phenomenal on both sides of the floor against the Nuggets. He efficiently knocked down 80% of his shots from all three levels of scoring while also sinking 60% of his threes. All of this netted him a big 21-point performance.
Getting buckets was also not the only thing that he did for the Timberwolves. He also played game-altering coverages against the Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray-led offense. Jaden McDaniels managed to stop the momentum of their NBA playoff opponents by meeting them at the apex of their shots or anticipating the passing lanes. This set of skills and defensive awareness got him a steal alongside two blocks to round out his performance.
Nuggets get absolutely torched by the Timberwolves
McDaniels was not the only person who clocked in big numbers in this 115 to 70 demolition job. Edwards was also recording a lot of buckets and doing a little bit of everything to get the Timberwolves the landslide victory. In fact, McDaniels returned the favor and gave their leader his much-needed flowers too.
“We just did not want to go home. I mean, my teammates got confidence in me. Ant gave me the most confidence and just went out and played my game and hoop. That's what we did today. We forced a Game 7,” the Timberwolves' wing player declared.
Edwards' intangibles have been insane for this series against the Nuggets. It looked like he was going to be out with a tailbone injury but he pulled through and even hyped his teammates up at the latter stages of the game. His production is also nothing short of amazing.
He shot 47.1% from the field and went four for nine from three-point range to notch a game-high 27 points. His scoring outburst was also kept infectious because he also dropped four assists for the night. Whenever the Nuggets were getting some form of offensive flow going, he quickly took that way with his three steals.
