The Memphis Grizzlies have been battling injuries to their players since the season started. Their prized recruit of the summer, Chandler Parsons, has suffered another setback and is out for two weeks while Zach Randolph has missed the past five games due to a sore knee.

Earlier this week, the team saw another one of their key players go down because of injury.

During the third quarter of their game on Monday against the Charlotte Hornets, their starting point guard, Mike Conley, was forced to leave the game and head straight to the locker room. He attempted to take a charge but fell awkwardly on his back. After tests were done, he was diagnosed with a transverse process fracture in the vertebrae and will be out for at least six weeks.

Now scrambling to add depth to their guard rotation and looking for a reliable veteran who can fill in the void left by Conley, one player has emerged as the favorite to be signed by the team once they get an injury exception from the league.

Toney Douglas is an eight-year NBA veteran who has career averages of 7.8 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. If he eventually joins the Grizzlies, he'll provide experience and solid defense to the team who are finding a way to keep their heads above water until their core players get back.

The Grizzlies are currently in the middle of the pack in the Western Conference with their 12-8 record and are finding ways to grind out wins while their key players are recuperating. Should they be successful in doing so, it will keep their hopes alive of making the playoffs as one of the higher seeds and attempt to make a deeper run in the postseason starting in mid-April.
