The Washington Wizards are zeroing in on former Cleveland Cavaliers guard and San Antonio Spurs draft selection Jordan McRae, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times.

The Washington Wizards are poised to sign former San Antonio Spurs draftee Jordan McRae to a two-way contract, league sources say.

McRae last saw action in the NBA during the 2016-17 season, when he appeared in 37 games in Cavs threads. During his short stint in Cleveland, he averaged just 4.4 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 0.5 assists per game, while shooting just 38.7 percent from the field and 38.4 percent from behind the arc.

Should his deal with the Wizards push through, Jordan McRae is expected to spend most of his time in the G League, where he is likely going to be assigned to the Capital City Go-Go – the Wizards’ affiliate team in the minors.  That said, players under a two-way deal can spend as many as 45 days with the NBA ball club.

McRae is a mere insurance policy for the Wizards should anything happen to any of the team’s backcourt pieces.

The 27-year-old McRae was selected 58th overall by the Spurs in the 2014 NBA Draft before trading the Tennessee product to the Philadelphia 76ers for Nemanja Dangubic. After getting waived by the Sixers, McRae bounced to the Phoenix Suns before hooking up with the Cavs.
