The Memphis Grizzlies played the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday night in an embarrassing 106-74 loss in San Antonio. To add salt to the wound, Reggie Miller claimed after the game that he TNT crew could beat the Grizzlies.

Needless to say, this did not sit well with some of the Grizzlies players, particularly veteran forward Zach Randolph.

“I heard that,” Randolph told Geoff Calkins of The Commercial Appeal. “For what all we've been through, and all the injuries, and not having our team at full strength, we still got a group of young guys that have played hard for us. And we go out every night as veterans and play hard every night. That's all you can ask for, if you ask me.”

“I know he was probably joking, but we work hard and we've been through a lot,” Randolph said. “We're not whining or nothing. We go out every night and play hard with what we got.”

Despite having lost multiple players to injuries and using an NBA-record 28 players this season, the Grizzlies were able to hang on to a playoff spot and clinch the 7-seed in the West. Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, that means facing the 2-seed Spurs who are coming off a historic season.

While obviously on different levels in terms of talent, one thing the Grizzlies and Spurs do have in common is age. Because of the numerous injuries suffered by the Grizzlies, head coach David Joerger was forced to start Randolph, Matt Barnes, Jordan Farmar, Chris Anderson, and Vince Carter in game 1.

The Spurs may be a part of even more history this season. Does anyone know what the record is for highest average age of both teams in a playoff series?
