The Indianapolis Colts quickly replaced Carson Wentz on Monday by trading for Atlanta Falcons veteran quarterback Matt Ryan, despite being linked to Baker Mayfield. The team has now made a major contract move to make sure Ryan does stick around for the entire two years of his deal.

Ryan is owed almost $54 million across the next two seasons and the Colts also picked up a $7.5 million roster bonus. The former MVP should be a nice addition in Indianapolis after Wentz struggled under center in 2021, with the organization narrowly missing out on the playoffs.

The Colts' offensive core, especially their backfield, is promising. Jonathan Taylor led the NFL in rushing yards last season and will be poised for another big campaign. Out wide, they could use some more weapons, with Darius Leonard even trying to recruit Ryan's former teammate, Julio Jones, who was released last week by the Tennessee Titans.

The Falcons meanwhile found a quick replacement for Ryan, signing Marcus Mariota to a two-year contract. The Colts only had to give up a third-rounder for Ryan, which is frankly a steal. While he is older now, Indianapolis is expecting the 36-year-old to step in and make a big difference. Let's hope he does just that.
