Josh Johnson knows how quickly things can change. The Baltimore Ravens felt good about their quarterback situation heading into the offseason. They traded Joe Flacco but have young quarterback Lamar Jackson in his place. Meanwhile, Jackson had Robert Griffin III behind him as a mentor.

Some bad news hit when it was announced Griffin suffered an injury and would miss some time.

That left the Ravens without a backup quarterback for the time being. They needed to change that, and they brought in Josh Johnson for a workout as a response.

Like Griffin, Johnson is a former member of the Washington Redskins. He was signed last season after a number of injuries at the position forced Washington to make a move. He ended up starting a few games and looked solid, especially considering he was abruptly thrust into the role.

That said, he should not expect a big role here. This is likely a case of Baltimore needing another body for training camp and the preseason. That way the Ravens aren't using Jackson too much and have another veteran to teach him on the field. Griffin could still be a big influence in meetings but won't be able to show him nearly as much on the field with an injury.

However, Griffin should be ready by the start of the regular season. That means once again, Johnson is probably just a training camp body. Yet, if he impresses enough maybe he will find his way on the roster and the lower end of the depth chart by Week 1.

It's definitely not impossible. Griffin has a long injury history. The Ravens may want to have another veteran behind him in case Jackson goes down. Right now the only other QB on the roster is rookie Trace McSorley.

For now though, Josh Johnson just needs to focus on impressing in his workout with the Baltimore Ravens. Anything that happens after that will come in the course of time.
