Cate Blanchett is set to star in the alien movie Alpha Gang, from directing brothers David and Nathan Zellner, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Zellner siblings wrote and directed the zany film Sasquatch Sunset which premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival, starring Jesse Eisenberg and Riley Keough.

Blanchett will play Alpha One, the alien gang leader whose mission is to conquer Earth. The two-time Academy Award-winning actress arrives on the planet in human disguise. Along with her posse of fellow aliens, they try to move around posing as a biker gang, complete with 1950s-style leather.
However, their plan to conquer the planet is thrown into disarray when she and the rest of the gang become infected with “the most toxic, contagious human disease of all: emotion.”
The Zellner brothers will direct and produce Alpha Gang. Blanchett will also serve as producer, alongside Coco Francini, through their Dirty Films banner. The movie will start filming this fall.

In a joint statement, Blanchett and Francini said, “The Zellner brothers' work never fails to suprise and delight us. In Alpha Gang, they have created a far-out world in order to lampoon something much closer to home: The hilarious, absurd, and peculiar truth of the human condition.”
mk2 Films, the French sales group which handled the international sales of Anatomy of a Fall, will also do the same for Alpha Gang's Cannes Film Festival market next week. CAA Finance will handle North American dales.

The Zellner brothers' Sasquatch Sunset follows the story of a family of Bigfoot-like creatures, filmed without any comprehensible dialog. The movie was a surprise hit at Sundance. It's currently in US cinemas through Bleecker Street.
Blanchett has several projects in the pipeline. One of her recently completed films are Borderlands, based on the massively popular video game of the same name, where she plays Lilith. The movie also stars Kevin Hart and Jack Black. The other is the political comedy Rumours which also stars Alicia Vikander. Another one of her project currently in post-production is Jim Jarmusch's Father, Mother, Sister, Brother.
The actress is also set to star in Steven Soderbergh's Black Bag with Michael Fassbender. Adding another project to her extremely busy schedule is a reimagining of Oscar Wilde's The Picture Of Dorian Gray.
Blanchett's last high-profile big screen role was the 2022 Todd Field feature Tár. It was nominated for six Oscars, including one for best actress.
