After being absent from AEW television for the entirety of 2024 due to a life-threatening diagnosis of diverticulitis, Kenny Omega is officially set to make his Dynamite return in his hometown Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, where he will address fans officially for the first time since last December.

But what will Omega say? Will he trash the Young Bucks for kicking him out of The Elite and for attacking Tony Khan ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft? Or will he reunite with Nicholas Jackson, Matthew Jackson, Jack Perry, and Kazuchika Okada in a swerve that turns him heel in front of his hometown crowd? Well, according to Don Callis, the man who managed him during his “Belt Collector” era, fans should get their popcorn ready, as when it comes to Omega, you never know what he's going to do.

“Well, here's the thing with Kenny Omega. You never know what's gonna come about of his mouth. When I managed Kenny Omega, I used to say, Kenny is like managing Michael Jackson, probably back in the day. Kenny, I would compare him to Michael Jackson because they're both geniuses. They're both creative geniuses. They both did things that no one else had ever done in the entertainment or in Kenny's case, in the sports field,” Don Callis explained on the Battleground via 411 Mania.

“But like with Michael Jackson, some days, he'd write ‘Billie Jean,' other days, Bubbles the Chimp crapped on the floor, and someone had to clean it up. That was my life with Kenny Omega for a very long time. So I have no idea what he's gonna say. I hope he's gonna apologize publicly to me. I hope he's gonna acknowledge that all the success he had in the wrestling business is because of me. The nice thing is, his parents get to attend the show. They've got a van for them. They're going to pick them up at the home and bring them down to the show. I think that's great.”

Whoa, the wrestling Michael Jackson? Michael Jordan, sure, but it's hard to imagine Omega embracing that one to the same degree because of everything associated with the “King of Pop.” Still, the assertion that Omgea is a creative genius in wrestling is a whole lot harder to argue against and presents all sorts of interesting options heading into one of the most important Dynamites in recent memory, as the “Best Bout Machine” could turn heel, stay babyface, become a manager for a new wrestler as he recovers, or even embrace something new and become an on-screen authority figure while TK is “unable to travel” to AEW shows due to his extensive injuries.

Whether you like him, hate him, or fall somewhere in between, it's clear Omega has the potential to be an incredibly important part of AEW moving forward despite being unable to work matches at the moment – assuming that is even still the case – as his insertion into The Elite storyline could create something truly incredible for the promotion moving forward.

Kenny Omega was as surprised as anyone to hear of his AEW return.

With AEW heading to Winnepeg for a special edition of Dynamite, fans had hoped to see Kenny Omega make an appearance in his hometown arena, even if he wasn't cleared to wrestle on the show due to his diverticulitis. Still, when the venue for the show, Canada Life Centre, announced his return, well, even Omega was surprised to hear he was heading back to Manitoba for the show, even if he ultimately agreed to appear in the end.

“Big news, don't know if you guys heard it. Kind of surprised to hear it. I remember thinking about maybe, maybe showing up to Winnipeg. It was a maybe. It was really just a maybe,” Kenny Omega explained on his Twitch stream via Inside The Ropes.

“My sister, my parents, my aunt were like, ‘Oh my goodness, we heard the big news.' ‘What? What big news?' ‘The arena is advertising your return.' I'm like, ‘Come on, man.' I'm 80% on board, maybe. I don't know, man. I thought, ‘Well, they advertised me,' that 80 (percent) becomes 100 (percent). I called the boss, ‘Hey man, if you want to run a graphic or something, I guess I'll show up.”

Arenas around the world, take note: if you want an absent star in AEW, WWE, TNA, or beyond to appear on your show, simply advertise for their appearance, and there's a decent enough chance you can bully the promotion into bringing them along for an appearance.
