After advertising for their in-ring showdown for the entire first hour of Dynamite, AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland marched down to the ring at the top of the second hour to address the crowd, and believe you me, he was mad.

Trashing on Christian Cage for how he landed a world title shot at Double or Nothing, by politicking with the EVPs for a spot in the main event, Strickland demanded the Patriarchy to come down to the ring, as he was prepared for their tricks this time around.

But first, before Cage, the Waynes, and Luchasaurus could throw down with all four members of the Moguel Embassy minus Prince Nana, the AEW World Champion decided to throw one final, massive volley at the former TNT Champion, so much so that even Excaliber, Tony Schiavone, and Don Callis had to shout it out on commentary.

“What's up, Christian? I want you to get into this ring so bad so I can beat your a** down like Kendrick Lamar did to Drake this past weekend. It won't be the last time someone from the West Coast took out a fake father from Toronto,” Swerve Strickland said confidently. “Come on, get in here be the face of TBS, of TNT; the Patriarch of AEW. You got here from playing the politic game; I had to work my a** off, get beat down and get back up to be AEW Champion, don't you forget that. So I dare you, come get my gold teeth, come take my gold championship, oh, that's right, you won't. That'd put Christian in a very uncomfortable position, wouldn't it? And we all know when Christian's facing an uncomfortable situation he's going to say, ‘I quit.'”

Dang, while this isn't the first time a wrestling promotion has tried to ape off of the feud, as Shawn Michaels offered the duo a spot in his NXT ring to air out their beef once and for all, Strickland decided to incorporate the diss into his own diss, an example of beef inception that adds legitimate and fun to a feud that's rapidly coming together before Double or Nothing. Factor in the Gates of Agony and Brian Cage turning on Strickland, and you're left with an incredible spot that elevates everyone involved moving forward.

Matt Hardy is proud to see Swerve Strickland become AEW Champion.

Though he isn't currently an active member of the AEW roster, instead working in TNA on a per-appearance deal while combing through free agency, Matt Hardy has been a first-hand observer of Swerve Strickland's career thus far and was incredibly proud to see him pull out the win at AEW Dynasty, as he explained on his Extreme Life podcast.

“Very happy for him, man. I like him a lot as a performer and as a person. So I was very happy that he was able to get this match and that now it is official, and he is the AEW World Champion. And just proud of the man. And I think it’s also something that is very proud for you know, the culture. You know, him being a Black champion, it’s very inspirational for Black people in wrestling as well. So I think it’s very good on that front,” Matt Hardy explained via 411 Mania.

“I thought it was solid. I know you are gonna really talk about the match a whole lot, but I thought it was a very solid match. It was great to see, I thought it was a great decision to make Samoa Joe the champ in the meantime. Because you know, we kinda had to — we kind of quickly come to an end as far as MJF’s reign went. And Samoa Joe becoming the champ following MJF; I want to give Samoa Joe flowers because he really was a h*ll of a champion during the time he was doing it. He was very believable, he was very bada**. And I think the fact that we got to this point and we had the build up with him and Swerve, and Swerve knocked off Samoa Joe. Who did seem like, in his own way, as Rock was saying, a final boss in so many ways. Like this really big, bad, Samoan bada**. I’m very happy that Swerve got that strong win over him. And once again, I give Swerve and Joe their flowers.”

After working all over the AEW roster since landing in the promotion after the premature end of his WWE run on SmackDown, Strickland was finally able to overcome the odds and establish himself as the first-ever African American AEW World Champion. No matter how his run with the belt turns out, that accomplishment can never be taken away by anyone.
