Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Eli Apple has always had a lot to say. From his time with the New York Giants to his time with the Carolina Panthers and the New Orleans Saints to his latest stop with the Bengals, Apple has always been a talker. We have seen it on the field, on social media, and now we are hearing that he even talked trash to his own teammates…when he was a rookie! Former Giants wide receiver Brandon Marshall, now a host of HBO's Inside the NFL, reflected on his time with Apple and offered a stern warning well before Eli's Super Bowl mishaps cost his team dearly.

“Do you know how many times I practiced against Eli Apple and said, ‘Bro, going against a number one receiver, if you give us the outside release, it’s the easiest thing in the world, I used to argue with him every single day playing with the Giants like, ‘Man, I’m trying to help you.’ … This is a history lesson on humility. Keep your mouth shut, play ball. Then you go to the Super Bowl and you have a couple of penalties, give up a couple touchdowns. You can’t do that. You need to listen to the vets. So all the other young people watching – learn from Eli Apple” – Brandon Marshall on inside the NFL

Wow. Marshall minces no words in describing how he tried to beat it into the brain of a young Apple that it would be unwise to give up the back-shoulder fade to elite receivers. Apple was burned twice on that route in the Super Bowl and possibly cost his team the game. Maybe after this, he will have some humility after eating his humble pie, but judging from Apple's past, we are not expecting it at all.
